Over time, collagen and hyaluronic acids in your body, gives your skin a smooth and supple look, will diminish. There are many ways to keep from having these things diminish quickly, but it’s difficult to prevent it entirely. Dermal, or also known as derma fillers, are procedures in which collagen and collagen-like material removes fine lines, wrinkles and folds from a person’s face by injection. On average, people get these procedures done between the eyebrows, crow’s feet, above the lip between the nose and mouth and other little areas. Minimally invasive, these injections require little recovery time and a lot less maintenance than using a skin cream type of treatment.
Before modern technology advanced to where it is today, face lifts and surgical procedures were the only way to take away years of age from a human face or body. Surgical procedures however, can be very extensive and require a large amount of time to recover and heal. People who are looking to have their looks renewed now have other alternatives to dermal fillers in which take fifteen to twenty minutes to administer. These fillers will typically be inexpensive in comparison to a surgical procedure, but price the will be determined by the type of filler, and how much work needs to be done. Continue Reading
Dermal Fillers in Sydney
Why Dermal Fillers are Good!
A lot of things happen to us as we get older.
Not everything about getting older is about wrinkles and grey hair.
Next time you are at a bus stop, have a look at the people around you. And ask yourself what is it about one person that makes them look young and fresh, and what in another person makes them look older and tired?
Some of it is due to wrinkles. And for many years Botulinum medicine has been used to address this problem. But a big part is due to volume loss.
We lose a lot of volume in the lips, the cheek bones and the eye area. We even lose volume and fullness in the mouth area and the temples. Continue Reading
Sydney Dermal Fillers: What are they?
Cosmetic procedures are nothing new to those living in Sydney, however who is doing the work, the quality and the procedures themselves are rapidly changing as new technology is constantly being developed. Dermal Fillers are some of this new technology that is at the forefront of cosmetic surgery and the youth rejuvenating that is sweeping Sydney.
So what exactly are dermal fillers and why has it become the newest choice for both surgeons and patients? Dermal fillers are used to fill and in some cases, replaced lost volume in the lines, folds and static wrinkle areas of the face that most commonly show age. Because dermal fillers are not like anti-wrinkle injections (Botox), they do not paralyze or affect the muscles in the face or facial controls. Dermal fillers are designed to work on the wrinkles, folds and lines of resting muscles, not the ones that appear during facial expressions. Because Facial volume loss is one of the major factors in aging and how others appear you to be aging, dermal fillers can help to replenish and build this lost volume in your face, giving you a younger, more vibrant look. Dermal fillers are also good for rebuilding lost facial volume, they can be used to define, enhance or enlarge lips and to specifically target and shape specific sections of the face, like the cheeks, chin and nose. Most treatments last from 4 to 24 months and because this isn’t’ surgery, the effects are completely reversible.
The procedure itself is fairly straightforward and can be done on a lunch break with no immediate side effects. To prepare the day of, remove all makeup prior to the treatment. A thin cream can be applied to the face for up to 30 minutes to numb the area if desired and local anesthesia may also be injected directly into the area. The dermal filler is injected directly into the area that needs to be shaped using the finest needles and worked into the area. The total procedure takes only about thirty minutes and is done on an outpatient basis.
Dermal fillers are an ideal choice for non-surgical treatment with near immediate results for a fraction of the cost of surgery, and without the long and painful recovery times. Utilizing dermal fillers is an easy way to enhance and beautify your looks with a completely natural substance that will achieve a long lasting and visually noticeable difference.

Dermal Filler Myths and Sydney Dermal Fillers
While botulinum injections may be the most commonly known non-surgical cosmetic treatment, that we see here at Star Cosmetic Medicine, in Pyrmont, Sydney it’s not the best for all applications. The reality is, botulinum injections temporarily paralyses the muscles under the skin but is not the best treatment for all patients.
Understanding what dermal fillers are, how they work and what they are used for should help eliminate some of the myths associated with them. Dermal fillers are used to replace and fill lost volume in the static wrinkles, folds and lines in the facial skin. Because they are designed to fill (hence their name) this lost area in, they do not affect facial muscle contraction, as commonly seen in stand up comedy routines. Dermal fillers are also best used to help combat the lines, wrinkles and folds in the skin on the face when the muscles are relaxed, or during times of non-expression. This is the most effective way to treat the signs of aging and what others more often see.
In addition to helping reduce the signs of aging, dermal fillers can also offer is the ability to define, enlarge and enhance the lips, giving a more sensual look. Furthermore, the ability to use dermal fillers to shape and volumise specific areas of the face such as the chin, nose and cheeks. Utilising dermal fillers allows for far greater control of how you look, unlike botulinum injections that is a bit of a one-trick pony in comparison.
Unlike traditional cosmetic surgery, the effects of dermal filler are temporary, lasting anywhere from four to twenty-four months in patients. The procedure itself is also far less dramatic; most patients can get it done during a lunch break and return back to work with virtually no side effects. Because of these two factors alone, more and more patients are requesting dermal fillers as a way to rejuvenate their look and bring youthfulness back to their image.
The most common areas for dermal fillers are:
* Lips
* Nasolabial folds (deep lines next to the nose)
* Nose
* Cheeks
* Vertical upper lip lines
* Chin
* Eyebrows
* Tear troughs
* Frown lines
* Other lines in the face.
Again, dermal fillers are best used on portions of the face that need to be rejuvenated while the face is at rest, they literally rebuild the lost tissue under the skin that has allowed the signs of aging via lines appear.
There are virtually no side effects to dermal filler treatments aside from minor swelling that usually only lasts a few hours to a few days for treatment areas like the lips. In some instances, minor bruising can also occur but this is rare and easily covered with minimal make-up. On a whole, dermal fillers are extremely safe to use, especially when compared to invasive, non-reversible surgery.
Since dermal fillers have a different effect then botulinum injections, it’s not uncommon to have the two treatments combined. Since both handle muscle, tissue and skin differently with different purposes, they often work well to help hide and eliminate the signs of aging.
